Established over thirty years ago, Wessex Cantorum is a choir based in Portsmouth that sing Evensong services in cathedrals along the South coast at times when the resident choir is on holiday. Formed mostly from members of Anglican, Roman Catholic and Free Church choirs in Dorset, Hampshire and Sussex, the group, lead by musical director Mark Burgess, have regularly sung Evensong services at Salisbury, Winchester and Chichester cathedrals.

In October 2014 and in May 2015 they sang an Evensong service at St. Paul’s Cathedral and in July 2016 at Wells Cathedral.

Annually, Wessex Cantorum provides a choir-in-residence at Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff for a week in the summer, singing both Holy Communion and Evensong services.

Evensong Responses used by the choir include those from Herbert Sumsion and Richard Ayleward, with Canticles from Samuel Arnold (Arnold in A) and Charles Wood (E flat No 2) and anthems from S S Wesley (The Lord Hath been Mindful of Us),  Edward C Bairstow (Save Us, O Lord) and Charles Wood (O Thou, the Central Orb).
